This trail run celebrates the 200 year anniversary of "The Last Bear Hunt" in Gilsum, New Hampshire. This story is documented in the "History of the Town of Gilsum, New Hampshire 1752-1879" by Silvanus Hayward. Published 1881.
The race retraces (roughly) the route taken by the hunters using the historical information cited in the legend. Runners will start north of Gilsum, head south into the Hammond Hollow woods, through Bear's Den Park, over Boynton Hill reaching "Stoddard Woods", and heading back in the direction of downtown Gilsum ending at Old Man Brewery in Gilsum.
This is a point to point 25k trail race which circuitously winds through Gilsum and showcases its natural beauty and conservation land.

The Gilsum Recreation Committee, which puts on the annual Gilsum Rock Swap and Mineral Show, has received 501C3 status from the IRS for its charitable mission to fund and help to provide recreational programs to the people of Gilsum. As a 501C3 the committee can accept tax deductible donations to support children's recreation programs and other activities. The organization uses funds raised at the annual Rock Swap to help fund programs such as the 6th grade class field trip and summer recreation programs for Gilsum children. It also helped to build the playground and tennis courts at the Gilsum Elementary School.
